Preliminary 2 (film)
In this task I and my group were asked to make a film of our choice. We made an Italian American gagster movie remake. In this task we had to think about different lighting, props and camera angles. When filming we did not have most of the props, but we did have the most important objects.
I and my group tried to use a variety of camera angles, to make it more authentic and more professional. We used many “over the shoulder” shots, because that is a great way of include two or more people in the scene without doing a boring shot of two people. Also I and my group used a few hand held shots, again to make it more authentic and more dramatic.
We did not have any major problems. The main problem that we had with our project was we didn’t have the right props or costumes. The success of our project was that we found the right actors to star in our film and we found them quickly. I think our project was a big success.
Continuity is very important, as it makes the whole scene look more professional, and smooth, I will definitely use this method in my final project.
Lighting is very important in a scene; it sets the mood of the scene straight away before any dialogue. In my preliminary film, we didn’t use the lighting as well as we could have done. Our film was an Italian American gangster movie. Traditionally, these movies usually use a lot of dark scenes to make the scenes more dramatic and tense. In our project we didn’t use the lighting to that effect, so there is something else that we could have improved, but now we know for future projects.
For this preliminary film, we didn’t think about mise en scene as much as we should have done. We should have brought more props to use in the scene. There is another area we could improve on.
